Trees of Henter

The oldest trees in the village of Sântimbru are in the courtyard of the Henter mansion, which also tell about our past. Historical descriptions inform us that mansions had characteristic parks. Even in this case there was a several-hectare park with ennobled plants and a fishpond around the mansion. As part of this, ash trees, locust trees and chestnuts survived.

Common ash
(Fraxinus excelsior)

Height

Circumference at base of the trunk

Trunk circumference at 1.30 m

Estimated age

Health

14,90 m

5,35 m

3.61 m (diam.=1.14 m)

approx. 175 years (presumably planted in 1848)

poor, 10% defoliation, no fruiting, trunk and collar are damaged by biotic factors, i.e. there is a large gully with rot inside and a Phellinus fungus - which grows on wood and causes rot - has grown on the trunk. In the crown, there are thin dry branches.

TOMOGRAPH PICTURE

Result obtained with the ultrasonic tomograph: this ash is severely affected and it is in an advanced poor condition over a very large area of the trunk cross-section (75% - 85%). This specimen, according to the tomograms shows a hollow inside the trunk, which is also visible on visual examination.

The care proposal: tree maintenance is achieved through care, especially by removing dry, decaying branches that pose a risk of breakage/fall and damage. Where the tree is in an advanced state of decline and is due for removal, replacement with seedlings of hardy ornamental tree/shrub species should be undertaken to optimize ecological, aesthetic and recreational functions.

Evaluation study with ARBOTOM sonic tomograph, study made by Károly Magyarosi.
